Dr. Chaffey started his Aviation Medical career, as a Medical Officer in the Royal Australian Air Force, serving 1973-1981. He graduated from the University of Queensland, and completed his Diploma Aviation Medicine from Otago University in 1994.

He has been in private medical practice, at the same Cavendish Road address since 1981, and is Director of the "Queensland Aviation Medical Centre".
